Kompas Gramedia (KG Media Group)
Built and maintained four large-scale Kompas platforms full-stack (KGContent, Klasika, INR, Kompas Data), optimized big-data access with Elasticsearch, and drove the R&D team's adoption of a modern microservices stack.
As a Software Engineer & R&D Core Team member at Kompas Gramedia (KG Media Group), I built and maintained several of Kompas's large-scale platforms full-stack and helped modernize the division's engineering approach.
About This Role
I worked across four major Kompas applications — each serving a different user base and traffic profile — while contributing to the R&D core team that pushed the division toward a modern, microservices-based stack.
What I Faced
Kompas's content archive stretched from the 1990s to the present across fragmented sources, making search and access slow. At the same time, much of the stack still relied on backend HTML/CSS/JS rendering that limited scalability and development speed.
How I Approached It
I optimized big-data access on KGContent with Elasticsearch and consolidated the archive into a single centralized source, and — as part of R&D — proposed and drove adoption of microservices with a modern stack (React, Vue, Next, Nuxt, Express, Python/Django) to replace backend rendering.
What I Did
KGContent (DAM)
Built and maintained the Digital Asset Management platform, optimizing big-data access with Elasticsearch.
Klasika
Developed the newspaper advertising placement input system.
INR
Built the journalist data input system, handling files and metadata.
Kompas Data
Contributed to the commercial data platform.
Archive Consolidation
Consolidated Kompas content archives from the 1990s to today into one centralized source for far faster search and access.
R&D Modernization
Proposed and drove adoption of microservices and a modern stack, replacing backend HTML/CSS/JS rendering.
Under the Hood
Vue.js, Nuxt.js, React.js, and Next.js.
Node.js, Express.js, Python/Django, and Laravel.
Elasticsearch and MySQL, with Docker and Nginx for delivery.
Impact & Outcomes
Made archive search dramatically faster by applying Elasticsearch and centralizing content from the 1990s to today.
Supported digitalization of physical archives into searchable online data.
Drove the R&D team's shift to microservices and a modern stack, improving scalability and development speed.
Projects from This Experience

KGContent — Digital Asset Management
Kompas's Digital Asset Management platform, consolidating decades of content archives into a single, fast, searchable source.

Kompas Data
A commercial data platform delivering Kompas's data products to business users.

Klasika
Kompas's newspaper advertising placement input system, streamlining how print ads are booked and managed.

INR — Journalist Data Management
A system for inputting and managing journalist data along with associated files and metadata.
What I Learned
Working with decades of media data showed me how much leverage the right search architecture and a modern stack can unlock — and how R&D advocacy can change a whole division's trajectory.
