About This Project
As the first engineer at Massive Music Entertainment, I designed and built Composync — the company's internal music ERP managing composers, songs, and royalty recipients, including music IP ownership transfer (the 'IP chain') and integrations that pull trend metadata from major streaming platforms.
The Problem
There was no existing engineering function, architecture, or system. The music domain is complex: tracking who owns what, how ownership moves over time, and how royalties flow — while integrating external data sources that each speak a different language.
How We Solved It
I initiated a microservices architecture and built Composync to manage composer, song, and royalty data, model IP ownership transfer as a chain, and integrate Soundcharts, Spotify, YouTube, and TikTok for trending metadata and traffic — with managed CI/CD, containerization, and code review.
Features
Key Capabilities
🎼
Composer & Song Management
Central catalogue of composers, songs, and royalty recipients.
💰
Royalty Management
Tracks royalty recipients and how earnings are attributed.
🔗
IP Chain
Models transfer of music IP ownership over time as a traceable chain.
🎧
Streaming Integrations
Pulls trend metadata from Soundcharts, Spotify, YouTube, and TikTok.
🏗️
Microservices Architecture
Built on microservices with managed CI/CD and code review.
Technical
Under the Hood
Frontend
React.js, Next.js, and Vue.js for the ERP interfaces.
Backend
Go, Node.js, and Express.js microservices over PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, and Redis.
Platform
Docker and Kubernetes with Vault and GCP, plus Elasticsearch for search.
Results
Impact & Outcomes
Delivered the company's core music ERP from a blank slate
Modeled music IP ownership transfer with a traceable IP chain
Integrated four major streaming platforms for trend metadata
What I Learned
Designing a domain model for something as tangled as music rights taught me to invest heavily in getting the core entities right before building features on top.
